Professional Biography
After earning a master's degree in entomology Jen Donovan started her "formal" teaching career as a middle school science teacher. Over the years, she has been able to keep her entomological research skills sharp by working on research projects alongside teaching science in both public and independent schools. Jen was able to meld her two passions—teaching and insects—by founding The Biodiversity Project. The project encouraged students and teachers to communicate and develop relationships with their peers from different cultures, nations, and communities. It developed learning partnerships between students, teachers, and researchers as well as fostered conversation, learning, and action around issues of biodiversity and conservation. The project also supported teachers in the development of authentic research experiences for their students and facilitated research experiences for teachers. Jen continues to teach science "in the middle" and at the upper school level and is currently the Director of the Penn Fellows Program at the Trinity School.
