Professional Biography
Joshuah Thurbee began his career by teaching in an independent school in Denver. Next, he went on to teach in a large suburban high school in the Chicago suburbs. In 2006, he helped to establish the University of Chicago Charter School, Woodlawn Campus, where he taught math and served as department chair. Most recently, Josh taught methods courses and courses that explored issues of teacher identity, educational equity, and the ways that race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and culture affect both teachers and students at the Urban Teacher Education Program at the University of Chicago. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Josh also coached beginning teachers and other coaches.
Josh is currently a program officer for teacher development at the Knowles Teacher Initiative— a foundation that supports a national network of mathematics and science teachers who are collaborative, innovative leaders improving education for all students in the United States.
