Professional Biography
Stanton E. F. Wortham is the inaugural Charles F. Donovan, S.J., Dean at the Lynch School of Education and Human Development at Boston College. He was previously the Judy and Howard Berkowitz Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Penn GSE. A linguistic anthropologist and educational ethnographer with particular interest in how identities develop in human interactions and in Mexican immigrant communities, Dr. Wortham has conducted research spanning education, anthropology, linguistics, psychology, sociology, and philosophy. During his 18 years as a professor and administrator at Penn, he served twice as the Interim Dean and received the University Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching.
