May 30, 2012 - Penn GSE recently partnered with the American Educational Research Association (AERA) to host the 65th Annual Seminar of the National Education Writers Association (EWA). From May 17-19, education reporters from across the country gathered at Penn to hear presentations from experts in the field, including in-service educators and researchers.
Several GSE faculty members took advantage of the opportunity to share their work with the press by participating in panels or giving presentations. Andy Porter shared his research on the VAL-ED principal assessment; Richard Ingersoll presented his research on the growing and "greening" trends in the teacher workforce; Joni Finney and Laura Perna shared the results of their five-state study on higher ed policy; Shaun Harper presented his work on race in higher education; and Yasmin Kafai shared her work on gaming and gender.
"Reporters, researchers, and scholars all have unique perspectives on what makes educational improvement so challenging," Porter said. "Working together on a seminar like this lets us address the most consequential topics in the field in a way that improves reporting and research."
