Penn GSE earns top spot in grad school rankings

March 23, 2012 - Penn GSE continues to be one of the top performing graduate schools of education in the nation, according to the recently released U.S. News & World Report 2013 graduate school rankings. The School has consistently been recognized as one of the most well respected and influential education schools nationwide, tying for the ninth spot with Northwestern University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Penn GSE’s stats are impressive. Incoming students are top performers on the GRE, and only 8.5% of prospective doctoral students are accepted – one of the most competitive acceptance rates in the country. Even with tough acceptance criteria, Penn GSE graduates more doctoral students per faculty member than most other top-performing schools, a testament to the School’s commitment to producing the education leaders need to rebuild the nation’s education system.

The School’s faculty, though small and selective, received a total of $20.1 million in funded research in 2011, the year on which 2013 rankings are based. This means Penn GSE receives more research dollars per faculty member than most other top-performing education schools, garnering $573,100 per faculty member.

“We in the Graduate School of Education are pleased to see the quality of our work being reflected in the steady year over year improvement in our rankings among our peer institutions,” Dean Andy Porter wrote in an email. “This is just another example of GSE’s impact and success nationwide through top-notch research faculty and innovative teacher training and leadership programs.”
