The Moder Patshala Volunteer Appreciation Celebration honors the M.S. Ed. TESOL and M.S. Ed. ICC volunteers, as well as volunteers and partners from the wider GSE, Penn, and Philadelphia communities, who have been teaching adult ESL courses and tutoring children in the after-school program.
Volunteers and Moder Patshala families will share in a traditional Bangldeshi dinner followed by an appreciation program recognizing the volunteers' commitment to Moder Patshala.
Speakers and workshop leaders will examine the reasons for why many institutions have transitioned away from traditional textbooks to Open Educational Resources (OERs) and in-house-produced materials. Language program coordinators and instructos of both commonly- and less-commonly-taught languages will describe their experiences creating their own materials and will guide workshop participants through examples of the effectiveness of these materials in the classroom.
