The Lorraine Beitler Collection of the Dreyfus Affair Distinguished Lecture Series present a panel on Children and Prejudice, with Heather Camlot and Fashina Aladé, moderated by Penn GSE's Jonathan Zimmerman.

Award-winning journalist and author Heather Camlot's The Prisoner and the Writer is a children's book about the Dreyfus Affair, beautifully illustrated by Sophie Casson. The book explores issues of prejudice and ways of judging whether information is objective, biased, or simply false.

Camlot is joined by Fashina Aladé. Aladé (College '11) is Assistant Professor in Communications and Public Relations at Michigan State University, where she is an expert on race and sexuality in children's media.

Jonathan Zimmerman moderates the panel. Zimmerman is the Berkowitz Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. A former teacher of social studies in public schools, he focuses on the ways in which political and social movements shape children's education on issues of race, identity, and sexuality. His book, Whose America? Culture Wars in the Public Schools, was published in a revised edition in 2022.

This event is open to the public.
