The University of Pennsylvania Predoctoral Training Program in Interdisciplinary Research Methods for Field-based Research in Education, sponsored by the Institute for Education Sciences (IES), welcomes Dr. Cassandra Guarino to our weekly seminar series.
The Impact of Changing Schools on Vulnerable Students' Academic, Social-Emotional, and Behavioral Outcomes
Presented by Dr. Cassandra Guarino, Professor of Education, University of California, Riverside
All students make scheduled school changes—most commonly for promotion from elementary to middle or middle to high school—but a significant percentage of students also change schools for reasons other than normal promotion. We investigate the impact of mobility—whether it be promotional or non-promotional—on students’ academic, behavioral, language acquisition, and social-emotional outcomes, with a particular focus on the outcomes of vulnerable students—low income, English learner, special needs, foster, and homeless students.
