University of Pennsylvania Names Calvin Bland Fellows

The Penn Futures Project has named three Calvin Bland Faculty Fellows to collaborate on research for boys and young men of color. Supported by a $2 million endowment from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Fellows were selected from the faculty at Penn’s Schools of Nursing , Graduate School of Education, and Social Policy & Practice.

GSE students teach English in Penn communities through PEDAL program

PEDAL@GSE offers classes weekly at GSE for people connected to Penn. The Community PEDAL@GSE program offers classes to West Philadelphia community members at the Walnut West Philadelphia Library. Last fall, Community PEDAL became partners with Philadelphia Mayor James Kenny’s Office of Adult Education, which promotes adult literacy.

Dinner and conversation bring Philadelphia communities together

At each dinner in the Breaking Bread, Breaking Barriers series, chefs prepare food—and provide a cooking lesson—from two cultures, and guests enjoy the food together. The Reading Terminal Market could handle the food, but asked Harris Sokoloff of Penn GSE's Penn Project for Civic Engagement to create a framework to ease the guests into a deeper conversation.
