Penn GSE Alum Awarded Fellowship from the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation

August 5, 2014 — Penn GSE alumnus Leroy Gray has been awarded a five-year Teaching Fellowship from the Knowles Science Teaching Foundation (KSTF). Gray is one of 32 early-career science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics (STEM) teachers to receive this national honor.

Gray graduated from Penn GSE in 2013 with a Master of Science in Education. While at Penn GSE, he worked with students from Overbrook High School and University City High School through the U.S. Department of Education's Upward Bound Math and Science Program. He is a founding physics teacher at Philadelphia’s innovative Science Leadership Academy at Beeber.

As a Teaching Fellow, Gray will receive funds for professional development, grants for teaching materials, and opportunities for leadership development and mentoring. KSTF works to improve STEM education by providing critical resources for early-career teachers.

Penn GSE’s Teaching, Learning, and Leadership Division addresses practice-based and theoretical problems in schools and community settings related to teaching and learning, learning science and technologies, curriculae, informal learning, and educational leadership.
