Urban Teaching Apprenticeship Program, M.S.Ed.

B.A. in English and Political Science University of Rochester

My name is Mike Hogan. I am a Master’s student at Penn GSE in the Urban Teaching Apprenticeship Program (UTAP) in the Secondary English Education program. I grew up in a small town in upstate New York called Marcellus and attended the University of Rochester (UR) where I double majored in English and Political Science. As an undergraduate I was fortunate to spend four years working with students in the Rochester City School District. These experiences, particularly the relationships I built with students, are what helped me to decide to pursue a career in education. After graduating from UR I served with AmeriCorps for two years with City Year Boston and City Year Buffalo. I will always be immensely grateful for the kind, funny, and determined young people that I met and who became such an important part of my life. I could not be more excited to be here at Penn and am looking forward to returning to Buffalo next year to begin my teaching career!
