Teaching Teachers: Changing Paths and Enduring Debates
by Dr. James Fraser and Dr. Lauren Lefty
Tuesday, November 27, 5:00 to 7:00 PM

As recently as 1990, if a person wanted to become a public school teacher in the United States, he or she needed to attend an accredited university education program. Less than three decades later, the variety of routes into teaching is staggering. In Teaching Teachers, education historians James W. Fraser and Lauren Lefty look at these alternative programs through the lens of the past with a variety of case studies in university ‐based, alternative, and hybrid teacher education. Surveying why various programs emerged, changed, or refused to change, Teaching Teachers uses the lens of history to provide a fresh look at this controversial topic.
