We are excited to share this year’s book, Minor Feelings: An Asian American Reckoning by Cathy Park Hong.
Hong is a poet and essayist who writes of her struggles with feelings of “otherness” – which she characterizes as “minor feelings” – that “occur when American optimism contradicts your own reality.” Hong recounts her experiences as a first-generation Korean American growing up in Los Angeles and chronicles her experiences with racism as an immigrant.
The book also touches on the need for culturally responsive K-12 curriculum, the challenges of structural racism within higher education, and the model minority myth as it relates to systemic racism.
Please RSVP by October 7th to join us for lunch and small group discussions.
