Faculty and students head to Chicago for AERA Annual Meeting

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting gets underway Thursday in Chicago. It is the world’s largest gathering of education researchers – a showcase for groundbreaking, innovative studies on topics such as coaching and mentoring, bilingual education and identity and project-based learning.

Penn GSE will again be well-represented. Ninety-two current students, faculty and staff will participate in nearly 160 events and presentations over the conference’s four days. Their research covers topics such as leadership, learning analytics and student well-being.

Among the highlights, Associate Professor Nelson Flores, who won AERA’s 2022 Early Career Award last year, will present “What Can Bilingual Education Teach Us About Race in the Post–Civil Rights Era?” based on new work from his latest book project. And on Friday, outgoing Dean Pam Grossman will host the highly anticipated Penn GSE reception at the Art Institute of Chicago.
