Join fellow GSE students, faculty, and staff for a workshop exploring diversity issues in education with current M.S.Ed. Candidate, Jax Lastinger. The workshop will be held on April 15th, 2019, from 6:30-8:30PM, in GSE (3700 Walnut St), room 121.
In this workshop, titled "Beyond Inclusive Education: Teaching for and with Trans Youth", participants will engage in hands-on activities that explore cissexism and transphobia in educational institutions, with the goal of developing practical skills in challenging those systems in their own educational practices. Students, faculty, and staff of any knowledge level are welcome to attend this workshop.
Jax Lastinger is a current master's student at the Graduate School of Education in Education, Culture, and Society. Their research focuses on the intersections of trans thriving, education, and media studies. They also work in GSE's Office of Student Services as the Diversity and Inclusion Fellow, where they organize and implement programming that supports students with marginalized identities and educates community members about diversity issues. When they aren't at GSE, Jax enjoys playing with their adorable tuxedo cat, reading tarot, and embroidery.
The workshop is part of a series titled Diversifying Education, which is a new workshop series this semester that focuses on helping GSE students, faculty and staff develop practical and theoretical skills in working with marginalized populations and educating about diversity issues. Individuals who attend three or more out of the four workshops will receive a formal acknowledgement from GSE of their participation in the series. This is an excellent resume builder for students interested in diversity issues!
If you are no longer able to attend this workshop, please let Jax Lastinger (ljlast@gse.upenn.edu) know as soon as possible.
