Penn GSE Professor Shaun R. Harper has been appointed to the MBK Alliance Advisory Council, along with Penn alumnus Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter. Penn alumnus John Legend has been named Honorary Chairman of the Alliance. President Barack Obama announced the launch of the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (“MBK Alliance”), which aims to make the American Dream available to all boys and young men of color by eliminating gaps in their opportunities and outcomes.
Penn GSE’s Center for School Study Councils (CSSC) took learning about the brain—and learning with the brain—to a whole new level with a visit to The Franklin Institute science museum.
“It’s a story of the American research university in the second half of the 20th century,” Puckett told the Current. “It’s a social history and an institutional history.”
Puckett and Lloyd, director of the University Archives and Records Center, will discuss the book at a signing 7 p.m. May 14 at the Penn Book Center.
In April, Penn’s Global Education Fund awarded Penn GSE professor Ameena Ghaffar-Kucher one of 12 grants to extend research about educational attainment for refugees in New York City beyond the schools and into the supplemental services provided by voluntary agencies and faith-based institutions.
“If all ethnography is fiction, can we tell a better fiction with film?” asked Veena Vasudevan, a doctoral student in Penn GSE’s Teaching, Learning, and Leadership program. Performing the Digital, the third-annual Screening Scholarship Media Festival, showcased ethnographic multimedia from Penn GSE and around the world.
