“C-SAIL situates Penn GSE and the University of Pennsylvania at the frontline of research into one of the nation’s most vital but fraught educational policy issues,” said Penn GSE dean Pam Grossman. “Porter and his team will provide one-on-one support to teachers as they grapple with incorporating standards into their classroom instruction, while also studying what works and what doesn’t on a national scale. Their center has the potential to move the needle on student learning.”
The research is presented in an interactive website that weaves theory with data. Supovitz and his colleagues found, on Twitter, the debate over the standards has become a proxy war for broader political issues.
Penn GSE Assistant Professor of Education Policy seeks to share his research and ideas with scholars and senior policymakers to influence K-12 education policy decisions.

Professors John Puckett and Michael Johanek will trace the story of how the American school system was built in “American Education Reform: History, Policy, Practice,” the first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) created by Penn GSE.
