One Book, One GSE 2023 selection examines immigrant, Filipino experiences in the U.S.

For this year’s One Book, One GSE initiative, the Penn GSE community embarks on a shared literary journey focused on Jose Antonio Vargas’s Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen, a deeply personal perspective on the experiences of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. A School-wide lunch and discussion about the book will be held Oct. 18.

Damani White-Lewis told Science last week that a recent study finding many researchers of color are at a disadvantage in the postdoctoral hiring process is both “very important” and “very needed.” He proposed addressing the issue by increasing network connections across universities to create “strong bonds” for minorities.
