Carter Professor of Child Development and Education at Penn GSE, has been voted president-elect of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Shaun Harper, Executive Director of the Center for the Study of Race and Equity in Education, was elected as a Council Member-at-Large.

Intended to honor the accomplishments of GSE alumni and other education professionals, the awards recognize outstanding contributions to Penn GSE and the field of education. The awardees will be recognized on campus at GSE’s Centennial Celebration on May 15, 2015.

Porter has been honored by The American Educational Research Association with the Distinguished Contributions to Research in Education Award, published the most-read AERA journal article of the year for 2014, and received the Distinguished Research in Teacher Education award from the Association of Teacher Educators

In celebration of its Centennial, Penn GSE has invited actress, playwright and social commentator Anna Deavere Smith for a special performance on May 5 at 5:00 p.m. at the Penn Museum. She will perform parts of a work-in-progress play she is writing about the school-to-prison pipeline. The event is open to the public and tickets are free.
