Professional Counseling, M.Phil.Ed.

Psychology, B.A. DePauw University

My name is Renee Bi and I am an international student from Beijing, China. I obtained my B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Education Studies from DePauw University, a small liberal arts college in Indiana. I am currently a second-year counseling student working my way towards my  professional counselor (LPC) licensure in Pennsylvania. Being in the United States for more than five years, I have developed a deep understanding of how cultural differences, stereotypes and microaggressions, mental health stigma, financial stress, and language barriers negatively affect international students' wellbeing. International students are often overlooked in diversity and inclusion conversations, but I have managed to make myself and the international student population heard in the academic, social, and political settings. Advocacy has been an important part of my person-centered, action-/solution-focused counseling practice, and I am grateful that my program has been preparing me to continue speaking up.
